Day 20 6 Jul 2009
Author: Laura S.Location: West End, Tortola
Today we drew first place in the race, so Patty J. did us proud. The cleanup session is long underway and people's emotions are running low upon the fact that this is our last day in paradise. Tonight will be an all nighter with lots of laughs, tears, and the reviewing of our truly magical three weeks of adventure.

Day 19 5 Jul 2009
Author: Matt P.Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Well it's Independence Day and once again the weather is great with a few clouds here and there. We started the morning with some wakeboarding and kneeboarding, which didn't really work because the water was rough. For lunch we had a short sail to Road Town, the capital of the BVIs, and walked around there for a while. An eventful thing that happened to us was Kalinda doing her first backflip off the side of the boat. It has been a great three weeks and it is really sad tomorrow is our last day on Patty J. so hopefully it will be an amazing day.

Day 18 4 Jul 2009
Author: Anna D.Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today was one of the most exciting days of the trip. We all dove the Rhone. We saw enormous fish, lobsters, and a six foot propeller. There were lots of other ships there and big waves so we had to be extra careful, but diving the Rhone was definitely one of the highlights of our trip according to most of us. After we dove this morning we ate lunch and went on a short hike on Salt Island. The view at the top was gorgeous. This afternoon we took our sailing test. Today was definitely an extremely memorable day.

Day 17 3 Jul 2009
Author: Nash A.Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
The conditions were good today. We had a lot of good wind, which was awesome, because we had two races today. In the first race we had a close run for second, which was awesome, but in the second race, contrary to the first, we came in dead last. It was all fun though. At lunch we stopped in West End for a little shore time, which was also very enjoyable.

Day 16 2 Jul 2009
Author: Eva H.Location: Sidney's, Jost van Dyke
Today we completed a morning full of sailing where we refreshed all of the skills from the previous days of sailing. After a lunch underway one shipmate pointed out a dolphin gliding smoothly through the water. As the whole group gathered at the bow, a whole family of them appeared, and everyone admired them as they swam by Patty J. We then took our sailing practical, full of tacks, heave to's, and man overboards. We docked next to a restaurant having numerous written on tshirts as decorations. The evening was full of good food, dancing, limboing, and good all around fun with the rest of the ActionQuest shipmates.

Day 15 1 Jul 2009
Author: Chandler B.Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today was a long but rewarding day. We all woke up early at around 6 to go on a hike up Mt. Sage, the tallest point in the Virgin Islands. The hike was about 7 miles and all uphill. Even though the hike up was grueling, the view from the top was beautiful. After the hike we ate lunch in town and had some free time to shop around. We then sailed over to a small sandy island and the boats had a sand castle building contest. Our boat built a Stonehenge inspired sculpture.

Day 14 30 Jun 2009
Author: Claire M.Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
Today, after we woke up, we sailed to Muskmelon Bay and started our rotation day. First we learned how to make Turk's Head bracelets/anklets. Next we sailed Picos for the last time in the BVI. After Picoing we learned about ships systems and heard many outrageous stories about plumbing systems gone wrong. Then we waterskiied and wakeboarded until lunch. After lunch we went on our last scuba dive as uncertified divers. We ended the day by sailing to Cane Garden Bay.

Day 13 29 Jun 2009
Author: Nels L.Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
Today we had a rotation day. We started out with knot tying. Then we sailed around with Picos. We later went waterskiing/wakeboarding. The crew mostly wanted to wakeboard. I kneeboarded and tried to do a 180 off a wake. That did not end well. After a nice bowl of soup we went scuba diving at Muskmelon Bay. The coral was really awesome! We later traveled to Sommer's Beach for a beach BBQ. Good burgers.

Day 11 27 Jun 2009
Author: Kalinda P.Location: Marina Cay
Today was slightly overcast but hot and humid. We sailed early in the morning to get to a group of rocky islands known as The Dogs. Once there the group went sailing and practiced tacking and working together. After we went for our second open water dive. There was an abundance of interesting coral and fish and we practiced a new skill. We did a share air exercise except instead of staying on the bottom, we shared all the way to the surface. After diving we sailed to Trellis Bay for some on shore time. Afer arriving at our final destination we all got some much needed fresh water showers and ended the day with a filling dinner of tortellini.

Day 10 26 Jun 2009
Author: Laura S.Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today many have achieved new goals: 360 turns, first open water dive, and even getting up on a board for the first time. Laughter has got us through this long day. We are excited to have summer Thanksgiving dinner, which is a first for me.

Day 9 25 Jun 2009
Author: Matt P.Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today started early again with a great breakfast from our chefs. Then we did our mooring drills, which was quite difficult with the strength of the wind. Then later we learned to tie a bunch of cool knots. Later we did our final confined water dive. Our first open water dive and PADI written final exam is tomorrow, which is exciting. Overall today was a really hot, windy, and exciting day and I can't wait for tomorrow.

Day 8 24 Jun 2009
Author: Anna D.Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today we had a late start. We woke up and ate oatmeal, changed into our bathing suits, and sailed to Anegada. The weather was gorgeous the entire day. On our way to the island Trevor sang really funny songs which made everyone laugh. Once we got there we all went onto the beach. Some of us played games, others walked, and some swam. We then sailed back to Mountain Point, which took several hours because of big waves. We ate sandwiches for lunch and had a delicious Mexican night dinner. Today was another memorable day.

Day 6 22 Jun 2009
Author: Eva H.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Today was a rotation day. The shipmates woke up rafted to a boat on either side. The first activity was sailing on small boats- the two person pico and four person hobie cat. After adding yet another layer of sunscreen most people went on a dinghy to wakeboard. After much success everyone sat down to a filling lunch of sandwiches. The second open water dive then ensued, and many skills were mastered. Breathing underwater was amazing once again. We then took showers in the ocean with a selection of music blaring loudly in the background.

Day 5 21 Jun 2009
Author: ChandlerLocation: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Today we took a short trip from Savanna Bay to Spanishtown, where we visited the Baths and shopped and ate in town. Afterwards we sailed to Vixen Point, where we rafted together with two of the other boats. Today was a day of firsts: first docking, first time ashore, first time rafting. While rafting was slightly stressful, everything went smoothly. And despite a series of bumps and scratches, everyone had fun exploring the Baths.

Today we were in Savanna Bay in Virgin Gorda. First we went on a short hike to the other side of the island. After that we learned how to windsurf. Then we learned how to dock the boat so we can do it tomorrow in Spanishtown. After lunch we went on our first scuba dive and got to wakeboard and ski at the end of the day.

Day 3 19 Jun 2009
Author: Nels L.Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was a long day of just sailing. We stopped at Manchioneel Bay for lunch. We had an excellent PB+J. After lunch we had a quick dip in the sea I attempted to do a backflip off the boat, but ended up landing on my back. After that we sailed to Savanna Bay for dinner and rest.

Day 2 18 Jun 2009
Author: Trevor F.Location: The Bight, Norman Island
There was a light breeze and some rain, but the rain only lasted a few minutes. The water was a little choppy but the ship is big so it cut through it easily. The ship made a complete turn twice when we tacked. We started at West End and we ended at the Bight. The funniest thing that happened was when Matt was sprayed with the fresh water hose in the face. The best thing we did today was go snorkeling at the Caves at Norman Island, but the reefs were better.

Day 1 17 Jun 2009
Author: Matt P.Location: West End, Tortola
After a long day of travel and delays we arrived and it was a little rainy. We spent the night getting to know each other through fun and games. At around 8 we all shared our first meal, which was great pasta dinner. We soon moved in our stuff to our cabins. The best part of the day was getting to meet a bunch of awesome new people and I can't wait to spend some great times together.

Day 7 23 Jun 2007
Author: Nash A.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Today there was great wind for sailing the smaller boats in Gorda Sound. Unfortunately Patty J had engine problems, leaving us stranded on the moorning ball for 2-3 hours. Finally once the boat's engine was up and going again we went to refill the water tanks and give the boat a complete scrub down. Once we got back to Vixen Point we played multiple intense volleyball matches. We ended the day with a BBQ and dance.
