Author: Haley F

Today we started off with a dive at the Indians. After throwing some eggs at the divers we set sail to West End where we cleaned the boat. Later that night we had a dock chat and a barbeque.I'm sad it's already over!

Day 19 27 Jul 2009

Author: Heidi M.
Location: The Bight, Norman Island
It was prank night last night! We woke up on No Horizon (another boat) this morning, after switching all of the shipmates from No Horizon to Bulot. Julia (skipper of No Horizon) didn't know what was going on this morning! Eventually we got back to our boat and we made pancakes and celebrated our prank victory. As we relaxed during the morning we suddenly hear "help, I can't find my buddies"...scenario! We rescued all 6 divers with total ease and are all now offically Rescue Divers. Hooray for us! Then we went to Roat Town and got stuff to eat at Pussers, yum! We sailed to Normal Island and just as we reached there the heavens opened and it poured. But we stood up on the bow anyways and sang our hearts our. It was such a good day and now we're just waiting for tomorrow...cleaning day!

Day 18 26 Jul 2009

Author: Geoffrey M.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we were able to wake up naturally, rather than to the sound of blaring music. However, shortly afterwards we realized that Sam had left with the dinghy to "visit" the other boats, which on Bulot means he was picking up victims for a rescue scenario for us. Because we saw it coming, we were at least prepared and the scenario went smoothly. After breaking down our divegear, we raised anchor and sailed to the Fearless wreck, where we had an optional dive. A lunch of grilled cheese sandwiches was prepared while returning to GHP, where we enjoyed an afternoon of relaxing. Conveniently, Sam surprised us with a second scenario right after we all showered, and thus I got into dive gear wearing only boxers and a t-shirt! Shortly thereafter, we had a dinner of teriyaki chicken. We also plan on taking our rescue test this evening.

Day 17 25 Jul 2009

Author: Haley F.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today we woke up and went to West End, where our entire boat went grocery shopping for our "essential foods", which are nutella, nutter butters, gatorade, and milano cookies. We had a delicious lunch at Pussers and then took off for Great Harbour Peter, where we had an optional dive at the Fearless (a wreck dive). As we were on our way to anchoring for the night, Brook, Kamryn, Lauren and I blasted the song "a whole new world" from Aladdin! We then proceeded to sing and dance to the entire song until we began to study for our rescue test. Great day!

Day 16 24 Jul 2009

Author: Matthew L.
Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today was a very relaxed day. We woke up a bit on the late side and enjoyed a delicious breakfast of pancakes. After cleaning up, we saled over to Sandy Spit and embarked on a search and recovery dive, where we had to think of and execute a plan to find our secondary anchor. We found the anchor without any assistance from Sam or Chrispy. After we recovered the anchor we relaxed for a bit, when unexpectedly we had a surprise scenario! Our rescue skills still need a little polish, but we got the job done. After more sunbathing we got to enjoy some time on a nearby beach. Later tonight, we are taking part of our rescue test.

Day 15 23 Jul 2009

Author: Kelsey B.
Location: Sidney's, Jost van Dyke
Today was a packed day, starting with an early rise, we climbed Mt. Sage and then enjoyed an awesome cheeseburger at the Cheeseburgers in Paradise restaurant. We were then supposed to motor over to Sandy Spit to have a sand castle contest, but because we are the awesome rescue boat, we had to save Serenity's (a sailside boat) anchor instead. We found the anchor, and then motored over to Sidney's Peace and Love for another fun Action Quest barbeque!

Day 14 22 Jul 2009

Author: Kacper W.
Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
Today the weather was acceptable, and the diving scenic. We did a couple of search patterns in groups, looking for Sam's squids. My group won, meaning we got the squid on the boat first, however Sam is making us share our prize with the second-place team - brownies! We did a lot of relaxing on the boat, and listened to some good music. During dinner, there were some funny people spraying us with water guns. We are now going to be writing our DAN Oxygen exams. Overall, it was a pretty relaxing day on our fine vessel: not too sunny, which is good for the pasty lads like me and Matt, but still enough to bronze the skin.

Day 13 21 Jul 2009

Author: Sam G.
Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
Today was an action packed day. We started off the day with our final navigation dive. It was very successful. For lunch, we had a buffet of our remaining lunch food. After lunch, we relaxed for a bit, hanging around the boat. Next, we were off to the beach to teach the Advanced Open Water shipmates our rescue skills. We taught them how to react to a panicked diver, etc. Finally, we ended the day with a beach party. At the beach party, there was a barbeque and the game of life. Back on the boat we had confusing sleeping arrangements, causing Kelsey to fall off her hammock. But she's ok. It was another awesome day at Action Quest.

Day 12 20 Jul 2009

Author: Carlo R.
Location: Muskmelon Bay. Guana Island
Stormy stomry day! We started off with a wildly shaky sail and went to a beach instead of diving a wreck that's mid-water. As a 3 year AQ veteran, I have never seen weather like this in the BVIs!

Day 11 19 Jul 2009

Author: Lauren B.
Location: Marina Cay
Today was another action packed day in the BVI! We woke up and sailed to Hodges Creek, where we enjoyed a delicious breakfast on the dock. Afterwards, we set out for a wreck dive. The water was rough and the weather a bit wet, but it didn't really matter because we were underway anyway. The wreck was awesome: so many fish and all that other fun stuff you can expect from diving in the beautiful BVIs! After the dive, we sailed to Marina Cay. There's a Pussers store there, where we restocked on items vital to our survival, such as MilkyWays and ice cream: delicious! Tonight we're listening to a recorded lecture.

Day 10 18 Jul 2009

Author: Jon D.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
We started off the day sleeping inuntil 8 and then eating pancakes with team Ireland's nutella. After that we learned how to tow a rescue diver while giving rescue breaths with and without a pocket mask. We ate grilled cheese sandwiches and then acted out scenarios, taking turns being the rescuer and the rescued. Now, after summertime thanksgiving dinner, we are going to learn how to give oxygen to an unconscious diver. Also, Mike is going to come over for some lifeworks.

Day 9 17 Jul 2009

Author: Brook E.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today was Kelsey's 16th birthday, which we celebrated by making a delicious funfetti cake, and we all sang happy birthday. Earlier in the day we dove the R.M.S. Rhone, which is always a classic Action Quest dive with many things to see. Some of us were lucky enough to see a small bright yellow seahorse off the bow of the wreck. After that we had 2 hours of rescue diver training in the water, on how to deal with an unresponsive diver. It was really hands-on and it got our adrenaline pumping. We're ready for some more rescue diving!

Day 8 16 Jul 2009

Author: Siobhan G.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Rise and shine time was at seen o'clock, to the sight of cereal. After having eaten, we sailed along the clear, calm, blue seas of the BVI's to Great Peter. There, we had a search and recovery dive, practicing our expanding square skills. After lunch we all had some serious rest and relaxation time in the sun! Some shipmates went wakeboarding, which was great. For dinner we had Mexican night, which was amazing. It took a long time to prepare but it was definately worth it.

Day 6 14 Jul 2009

Author: Heidi M.
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
It was a really good day today. We did 3 dives. First we did a navigation dive, we found everyone eventually (it was part of our skill dive). Then we had some chill time. Some people went and dove the chimneys, a very great dive. After lunch we motored to Mountain Point and did some more rescue training (search and rescue dive patterns to find plastic toys). There were brownies for desert!

Day 5 13 Jul 2009

Author: Geoffrey M.
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
The first thing we did today was motor to the baths on Virgin Gorda while eating oatmeal for breakfast. The baths was really fun! Afterwards, we went to Spanish Town and ate cheeseburgers at the Bath and Turtle. The boat then sailed to Mountain Point where we spent the afternoon hanging out on the boat. Veggie burgers were for dinner.

Day 4 12 Jul 2009

Author: Haley F.
Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was such a great day because we finally got to do our first "rescue" dive! We awoke at Savanna Bay with eggs for breakfast. I motored us over (with Sam's help) to our close by dive site, where we did a navigation dive. We did some reciprocal squares and natural navigation. After lunch we had our first rescue dive where we practiced self rescue and rescue for "tired" and "panicked" divers on the surface. I asked Sam if my burn looked bad and he hit me and asked if it hurt...hahaha! (it hurt). Dinner was so good! We have the baths and Spanish Town tomorrow!

Day 3 11 Jul 2009

Author: Matthew L.
Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today we woke up at a leisurely 6 am. After breakfast we motor sailed to a dive site. Everyone dove the wreck, it was a very nice dive because we were able to explore the wreck. We made a brief stop in Road Town to refuel. Some of us enjoyed fresh water showers while others went shopping at the market in Road Town. During our sail to Savanna Bay, most of us enjoyed getting soaked by waves that clashed the front of the boat. After a candle-lit dinner of cheesy alfredo pasta with ham, we cleaned the dishes and the boat. Our first rescue lecture will be tonight. A good portion of the boat just came up to me to make sure that I include the fact that we all got soaked during our sail today - it was the best part of the day.

Day 2 10 Jul 2009

Author: Kelsey B.
Location: White Bay, Peter Island
Today was the true first day of Action Quest. The weather was beautiful as usual: it was sunny and hot all day. We left the dock at 11 this morning and motored over to Peter Island for a refresher dive and relaxed the rest of the afternoon. Sloppy Joes were for diner. After, we had a dive chat about the rescue program, and got our course books. The most fun thing we did today was jump off the front of the boat and go swimming!
