Day 20 27 Jul 2009

Author: Hannah
Location: West End, Tortola
We all awoke with heavy hearts knowing it was our last day aboard Patty J. However, we quickly forgot our worries as we remembered that today was the last day race! After some trouble with our prop we took our position in the lineup as fourth. We were completely ready to take first place! The whole crew was in the Patty J uniform: girls wore their hair in plaits, the boys wore boxers and to top it off, we all wore face paint. The team decided that it was these crucial elements that made us win the race! The crew and I agree that this was been the most memorable and magical vacation that we will treasure forever. We love you Patty J. XOXO

Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today we stayed in the morning on Peter Island where we waterskiied for a while. After we went sailing to Road Town in Tortola. On the way there we got stuck in a small storm but it was great fun!

Day 18 25 Jul 2009

Author: Carlos
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
We woke up at six in the morning and went to the Rhone where we went scuba diving in a boat wreck which I think it's been the coolest dive ever and we hiked to the top of the island. After all this we went near the boat. There we snorkeled with all the stuff and came back to Peter Island where we actually are.

Day 17 25 Jul 2009

Author: Mary N.
Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
We woke up really early as usual, then we ate some delish cereal. After breakfast Charlie and I went to No Horizons to draw numbers for the race. We got 3! After that we got the race going (Patty J. got revved up by Pirates of the Caribbean intro music). We got 2nd! At West End we ate some good food, called home, shopped, then loaded back onto the boat for race #2, which was three hours this time! We had the lead the whole way then a mishap occurred with one of the jib lines, putting us in second again. It's allright though, we still had a great time! Now we're anchored in Great Harbor, Peter Island for some sleep!

Day 16 24 Jul 2009

Author: Lucas C.
Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today we were able to wake up late for a change (7:30 is considered late). After breakfast we had to set sail and leave the dock of Sidney's to take our practical exams. While some of us were on deck trying to impress our skipper, others were in the salon tying knots. Once everybody took this exhausting exam, though, we were able to go hang out at the beach on Sandy Spit.

Day 15 23 Jul 2009

Author: Luigi D.
Location: Sidney's, Jost van Dyke
Today we had a very early wake up call, 5:45, so that we would have a lot of time to prepare ourselves for the hike. Just Julie was excited about it and all of us were quite reluctant to the idea of walking 8 miles of a very steep heel. Our group was the first one to arrive at the top, but after rescuing a dog we arrived second. After that we did a sand castle competition in which we arrived second, but we should've won. We finished the day with a BBQ while listening to a reggae band.

Day 14 22 Jul 2009

Author: Marie Z.
Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
The weather today was not particularly great. Most of the day was cloudy with a few showers. It was our last rotation day today, but it was really fun. We started off waterskiing and wakeboarding, this was a success for most. Then the Vegas went on their last dive needed for certification! The advanced divers saw an eight foot nurse shark and had a satisfying dive. The rest of the day was spent learning how to tie Turk's Heads knots and talking about future ActionQuest adventures.

Day 13 21 Jul 2009

Author: John B.
Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
We started the day with eggs and toast. We split up into two groups, the Quest and Mike, and all the Vegas. The Vegas went Picoing and then diving, where we did deep water skills. After our soup we learned about the boats engine and different systems. We are all about to go a BBQ and play the Game of Life. We are all excited to learn what the Game of Life is and can't wait for the food.

Day 12 20 Jul 2009

Author: Tiffany L.
Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
We started the morning off with french toast, some lucky enough to eat as many as 8 pieces. With plenty of time in between activities (we sailed to four islands known as "The Dogs" and went scuba diving off plane wrecks), we challenged each other to arm wrestles and pushups. Unfortunately, the girls team lost both competitions; however we (the girls) win in personality so we were able to call it an even game. Today was probably one of the best days for music. As skipper, Tiffany got to control the music. Too bad she's the only one who likes it! Having a great time, see you all at home!

Day 11 19 Jul 2009

Author: Kelsey S.
Location: Marina Cay
The day started with a delectable and hardy breakfast of cereal. Once the crew's stomachs were satisfied, we proceeded to practice our sailing by moving in circles for a bit. After a quick pit stop for more refreshing fresh water, which Kelsey parked the boat perfectly for, Patty J headed off to port. At port everyone was ecstatic at the internet cafe, enjoyed "totally awesome mahi mahi sandwiches," stocked up on precious junk food, and basked in the sights of ocean palm trees and chickens.

Day 10 18 Jul 2009

Author: Michael L.
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
We slept in this morning and had a fantastic batch of pancakes! Today was another rotation day so we started off practicing man overboard drills. Then we went to dive a new part of Mountain Point and the advanced divers saw a reef shark! It was awesome!!! We quickly ate sandwiches and then had a short navigation chat. Following that we went waterskiing, wakeboarding, and kneeboarding. We finally returned to Patty J. and had a sail chat. The chefs began cooking amazing summertime thanksgiving dinner and the rest of us showered. Since we already thoroughly cleaned Patty J. yesterday, tonight we are having an unbirthday party wich will include a movie and a cake- yum!

Day 9 17 Jul 2009

Author: Simon
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Yarrrr!! Today we spent the day at ye ol' Mountain Point. It was very gnarly. In the mornwe picked up mooring balls. After that we went down to the depths of the sea. Aye I saw Davey Jones's locker! Then me and my crew fe our scurvy mouths with some lunch. Then we wrestled with the tillers sailing some Picos where a Spanish armada boarded my Pico Captain Jack style. After that the open water divers had a test and then I got my salty sea dogs to scrub the deck! They gave our lady Patty J. a good clean. All in all it was a gnarly day... and I'm the best skipper. Yarrrr!!! p.s. I wrestled a sea bear.

Day 8 16 Jul 2009

Author: Hannah T.
Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
We set sail early and headed towards Anegada. Before doing the full three hour journey we stopped off at Leverick Bay for a chance for shipmates to call their families that they missed and to stock up on a huge amount of yummy snacks! We had a small disturbance at the beginning of our sail when our dinghy line decided to get tangled with our propeller, Doug heroically jumped in and saved the day. When we arrived in Anegada we had a lovely swim before setting back on the stunning journey towards Mountain Point where we are anchored.

Day 6 14 Jul 2009

Author: Carlos P.
Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
We stayed all the day in the beach of Vixen Point doing wake and waterski, windsurfing, scuba diving, and we also learned how to do the knots for sailing. It was really fun because I tried to front flip skiing and the backflip when I was wakeboarding, though I didn't land anyone but before I finish this trip I'm going to get it. Finally we played football (soccer) with the other shipmates. I learned today more windsurfing than the other day.

Day 5 13 Jul 2009

Author: Molly N.
Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
We woke up, then started an early sail over to the Baths- we jumped off the rock then went on the trail to Devil's Bay. While there we went to an underwater cave and also saw a stingray. Then we sailed to Spanishtown. After we sailed to Vixen Point. Everyone is scratched up from the Baths- so worth it though! Everyone is bonding more by the day and I love them all!

Day 3 11 Jul 2009

Author: Luigi D.
Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today we had an early wakeup call at around 6:30am. We left Norman Island afew hours later, heading for Cooper Island, where we had a quick lunch and a quick bath. We then set off for Savanna Bay and during the trip we had some exercises like heaving to and man overboard drills, which wasn't very successful because we lost the boat hook and the garbage! Now we are in Savanna Bay and I hope tomorrow will be an exciting as today.

Day 2 10 Jul 2009

Author: Marie Z.
Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Many of us slept outside last night, and it rained. That was a pretty great start. We were officially woken up at 6am to do the swim test at 6:30. That went pretty smoothly. After that we had delicious pancakes and attended Mike's lecture. About an hour later we finally set sail and headed off to snorkel in the caves of Norman Island. It was really great, we even saw a turtle! After that, we took salt water showers and had amazing sloppy joes for dinner.

Day 1 9 Jul 2009

Author: Unknown
Location: West End, Tortola
We all started the day exhausted from our flights. Some arrived as early as 10am, some as late as midnight. Crewmates traveled from all parts of the world, including England, Spain, Italy, Canada, and the U.S. Although none of us know each other, we quickly grew to enjoy each other's company. Dinner was served around 8pm, during which we learned about the boat and each other. After settling in everybody spent the night on deck where we listened to the flapping of the sails and splashing of the salty ocean water. We are all very excited to experience this thrilling journey together. XOXO Patty J!
