Day 20 28 Jul 2009
Author: Elisabeth G.Location: West End, Tortola
Today we woke up at 7am to get ready for the final race. We had oatmeal for breakfast. The race started at around 10. We arrived in West End at 12 and we had PB+J for lunch. We have been cleaning and tidying the boat since then. Unfortunately we did not win the race but we all had a lot of fun. Tonight is the final night BBQ and closing program. We all had a GREAT time during this program and can't believe it's almost over already.

Day 19 27 Jul 2009
Author: UnknownLocation: The Bight, Norman Island
Today we woke up at six to boiling water on the deck with oatmeal on the table, motoring underway to get ready for the dive on the Rhone, which is a ship. That was the most fun dive yet. After we finished with that we went on a hike with a few ponds that we skimmed some rocks on, which was cool. Once we hiked we came back to the boat and ate lunch. Then we had our sail test which I still don't know the grade I will receive. I'm looking forward to fonight.

Day 16 24 Jul 2009
Author: Isabel M.Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today we had our sail practical (sail test) so we sailed all day long. It was actually really fun and we had a great day. However we were a little bit tired because yesterday we had a BBQ and dance at Sidney's and we stayed late because it was awesome!! Once the sailing test was over we hung out on a little island with the other boats where we played in the sand and swam. At the end it was a great day and everybody passed!!

Day 15 23 Jul 2009
Author: Jake W.Location: Sidney's, Jost van Dyke
We woke up really early so we could gt on the dock and start our long hike to the top of Mt. Sage, the highest point in the BVI. The hike was really challenging- three miles each way on steep terrain but the feeling of accomplishment and the view made it all worthwhile. After that we walked through the town of Cane Garden Bay and ate cheeseburgers in paradise. We went back to our boats to sail over to Jost van Dyke and Sandy Cay for our sand castle building contest. The castles were amazing but ours was the best. Then Sidney's Peace and Love reggae party and shopping. Things are all great in the BVI. We're all certified divers and tomorrow is our sailing practical.

Day 14 22 Jul 2009
Author: Sam G.Location: Cane Garden Bay, Tortola
We began our day with an early start of lifting anchor and motoring back to Muskmelon Bay for another rotation day. Though groggy after the 6:15 wakeup, we were all excited about the day's main event, our final certification dive. We also went skiing, wakeboarding, and learned about the ships systems, such as the bilge pumps, the engine, and the electrical system. We finished our day with pancakes for dinner underway as we motored to the famous Cane Garden Bay, home of the cheeseburger in paradise. We finished our day with a sail lecture and will all go to sleep happily certified divers!

Day 13 21 Jul 2009
Author: Ryan F.Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
Today we woke up in Muskmelon Bay and we made eggs for breakfast but some of us had cereal instead. After breakfast we all changed into our swimsuits and got ready for first rotation, which was waterskiing. After was second rotation, which was my favorite- diving!!! We had to do some skills but it was really cool and third was just talking but before that was lunch yum. And later we are going to a beach BBQ but overall it has been a great day and a great time.

Day 12 20 Jul 2009
Author: Anna G.Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
We woke up in Marina Cay and had a delicious breakfast of french toast. We left Marina Cay a little late because we were low on water, but we were quickly sailing. The weather was beautiful until we reached White Bay for lunch. The rain and wind caused us to move our boat but luckily the rain cleared and we were sailing again. Little did we know it was going to storm again! The strong winds were pushing Serenity towards the water, but the boat and shipmates are all fine. This eventful day was completed with a tasty dinner: chilli and rice! The day was crazy but so much fun!

Day 10 18 Jul 2009
Author: Sydney R.Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today we had a rotation day. We woke up and sailed the Picos (they were really fun and exciting!). It started out to be a cloudy day and rainy, but once we went scuba diving it was really fun. It was our first open water dive! We only saw a few fish and a bunch of coral, but it was still interesting! Tonight we had a sail chat. We also learned how to get mooring balls on the sailboat. We also had to take the final exam for scuba diving, and everyone passed!

Today we had an awesome day. We woke up at 6:30am to a beautiful sunny day, and sailed from Vixen Point to Mountain Point. We had a rotation day, but before that we had a delicious breakfast of cereal and milk. Our first class/rotation was navigation chat, where we learned all about charts and where we are sailing. Second we went to the diving boat to scuba, which was super fun. Soon after that we went to lunch, followed by practicing man overboards with Mitch. Then we went waterskiing and wakeboarding. The day wrapped up with us showering, cleaning, and preparing dinner, which was chicken caesar salad.

Day 8 16 Jul 2009
Author: Elisabeth G.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
We had a rotation day! We started with snorkeling in the mangroves, after that we got to sail Rhodes boats (mini sailing boats). We also learned how to use our dive planners. We headed to Leverick Bay after lunch. I think everyone was happy about getting their cell phones back, even for an hour! Shipmates bought snacks at the local grocery store, called their parents, or simply hung out on the dock in the sun and the clear blue sky. Tonight was Mexican night, I am sure everybody enjoyed the tacos! Funniest thing: When Savannah and I thought we would be able to sail Picos (even smaller sailing boats). Obviously we couldn't! We capsized five times in less than ten minutes. Epic fail, but don't worry, we're fine!

Author: Matt B.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Today was another rotation day. First we waterskiied, second we did scuba diving, third rotation we had knot tying, and fourth we had windsurfing. Today I learned a lot of knots that took me a while to understand but I finally got them. I also saw my friend from where I live. All in all it was a good day.

Today we woke up in Savanna Bay and had french toast made by our wonderful chefs. Then we sailed to Anegada and went to the beach. The water was so beautiful, very warm and clear. Then we continued sailing for another three hours to Vixen Point. We just finished dinner and are now rafted. Later tonight we'll have our third dive chat.

Day 4 12 Jul 2009
Author: Isabel M.Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
This morning we went to the Baths. It was awesome. I'm sure everyone had a great time and the place was beautiful. Then we had lunch in Spanishtown and we got our cell phones back so some of us got to call home. After that we practiced sailing for the rest of the afternoon. So we came back to Savanna Bay and we're staying here for the night. P.S. while doing the dishes a cup fell in the water but someone picked it up, then somoene broke a bowl and the knife fell! I think we'll be out of dishes at the end of the session!

Day 3 11 Jul 2009
Author: Jake W.Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today we set sail from the Bight and headed towards Savanna Bay on Virgin Gorda. We stopped halfway for lunch and took a little swim in the warm ocean. We learned the basics of sailing, how to raise and take down the mainsail and the jib (headsail). How to drive was very fun but we encountered some strong winds so we motored some of the way to Savanna Bay. We then went wakeboarding and kneeboarding, we had so much fun. The funniest part of the day was when Parker and Kyle started dancing to our blasting music. We are having so much fun but it is so hot here!

Day 2 10 Jul 2009
Author: Sam G.Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today we set sail from West End and headed east. After going along for about an hour, we arrived at the Caves for lunch and snorkeling. We spent about 45 minutes looking at the amazing fish and coral along the bottom and we swam to and through the caves. The sight was stunning. After snorkeling we all swam, and set sail for the Bight, a cove/harbor to drop anchor in for the night. It was a very good day.
