Day 16 15 Aug 2009
Author: Phoebe W.Location: West End, Tortola
We woke up today at a late 7:15 and jumped into cereal and oatmeal with a breakfast visitor. Then after the skipper's meeting we tacked at Road Town to Peter Island and came in fifth (not last) in the race. After the race we went straight into packing :-( and intense boat cleanup aka scrubbing everything clean and emptying trash and junk from cabinets and a whole bunch of Mr. Clean and soft scrub.

Day 15 14 Aug 2009
Author: Drew H.Location: The Bight, Norman Island
Today we woke up and ate then went wakeboarding. Only six people went because it was way too windy and the sea was choppy. Then we sailed to Road Town and then ate lunch, then got on the boat and sailed back to Norman Island. Then we ate dinner and Travis came to eat with us then we did a Lifeworks sorta thing and wrote cards to each other then went to sleep.

Day 14 13 Aug 2009
Author: Megan E.Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
This morning we woke up and had cereal. After we motored over to the Rhone from Peter Island. When we got there the divers set up their scuba gear and dove on the shipwreck. It was definitely the best dive we've done the entire trip. Afterwards we went to Salt Island and hiked to the top of the hill. The view was beautiful! We dinghied back to the boat for our salt water showers and dinner. I can't believe we only have two days left!

Day 13 12 Aug 2009
Author: Cyrus A.Location: Great Harbor, Peter Island
Today, on Day 13, Drew, Danae, Jared, Alex, Leah, Patrick, and Anna went to see the sunrise on Sandy Spit at 5am. The rest of the crew slept in til 7:30 and woke up to oatmeal :-). We prepared for our Pringles Cup, which was our first sail race. Unfortunately Pine came in last place, but we carried our strong spirit. We stopped at West End for lunch and spent a couple hours there. After leaving West End the shipmates went through their sailing practicals for their certifications. After the practicals we saw Ocean Star, one of ActionQuest's personal sailing vessels. After anchoring we had Mexican for dinner.

Day 12 11 Aug 2009
Author: Patrick D.Location: Sandy Spit, Green Cay
Today was a calm day on the bay where my boat and I had a rotation day. First rotation was skiing/wakeboarding. The second rotation was talking about Seamester aboard one of the two schooners. The third rotation was tying Turk's Heads to tie around our wrists and ankles. After that we ate lunch, then went scuba diving, where I was finally certified, along with most of my boat. Then we came back to sail to our current location, then ate thanksgiving dinner.

Day 11 10 Aug 2009
Author: Danae G.Location: Sommer's Beach, Tortola
This morning we woke up to a board full of activities. Today was our second to last rotation day and it was packed. We started off with wakeboarding and waterskiing. Next we had our Pico races; team one dominated. It was a lot of fun. After we followed up with a sail chat with Chad. Finally we went for our second to last dive; we learned new skills, even though the water was full of jellyfish. The dive was cut short, but still amazing to be there. Soon it was time for showers and then we motored to Sommer's Beach for our BBQ. The beach was the perfect place to see the sunset. We ended our day with the Game of Life and a dip in the water to get all the sand off. Overall it was a very nice day.

Day 10 9 Aug 2009
Author: Alyssa H.Location: Muskmelon Bay, Guana Island
Today was really fun, especially because we started off with a sleep in. After a delicious breakfast of pancakes we practiced our sailing skills while sailing to Guana Island. There we got to spend some time on the beach, burying Danae, building sand sculptures, and just hanging out. Shower time flew by and before we knew it we were sailing once again. After practicing more skills and dealing with some cases of seasickness, we anchored the boat and got ready for Phoebe's birthday dinner. We had two special guests, Jim and Aaron, enjoyed dinner, birthday cake, a special phone call for Phoebe from Travis, and a very crazy cleanup session. It's been a crazy day filled with laughs and memories and now we're all ready for a nice long, cozy sleep.

Day 9 8 Aug 2009
Author: Alex C.Location: Marina Cay
And another amazing day in the BVIs is coming to an end. The first thing we did today after breakfast was motor to the Dogs where we went scuba diving and snorkeling. It was very pretty and there were lots of fish to see. After diving we did some BA (boat appreciation). I got the lovely job of cleaning the head. Once our boat was clean we got underway and ate lunch. Lunch was ramen noodles which was fantastic. While cleanup was going on we took turns taking Hibiclens showeres, which feels amazing. Because we were down below some of us felt seasick. Once we arrived in Trellis Bay we all got time to go ashore. We all called home and even got a chance to go on facebook. After being shuttled back to the boat we got underway to where we are now (Marina Cay). Marina Cay is very small, only one store. We all stocked up on food and made lots of jokes. So all in all it was a fantastic day.

Day 8 7 Aug 2009
Author: Jared A.Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today was yet another amazing day in the BVI. We started our day by taking our final PADI scuba diver written exam, with mostly positive results. After that we went waterskiing and wakeboarding. Everyone has already improved at these since the first day. Lunch was after that, followed by man overboard (MOB) practice. Finally, to finish our day, we either went on a snorkel or our first open water dive. I went on the dive and it was so much fun. We saw so many cool things. Overally this was another great day down here. Later.

Day 7 6 Aug 2009
Author: Taylor H.Location: Mountain Point, Virgin Gorda
Today was a super fun day (just like every day but still). First thing in the morning the Picos were waiting for us, and although most of us capsized we still all had a blast. Next rotation we were able to learn to pick up mooring balls that are in the water, and we each dominated that sailing skill. Though we almost lost the hook to actually get the mooring ball, we still got it :-) After lunch it was the last confined water scuba dive. We had to master the rest of our skills but at the same tie we were able to spot an octopus, a moon jelly, and a huge barracuda!! Ok, well gotta go, it's Mexican night tonight!

Day 6 5 Aug 2009
Author: Leah G.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Today we sailed around Gorda Sound. We practiced knots, sang songs (A Whole New World and James Blunt). We stopped in port for a short while and stocked up on snacks. Tonight is the BBQ with all AQ members! We will be dancing all night and then will sleep under the stars.

Day 5 4 Aug 2009
Author: Phoebe W.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
Rotation day 2: we started off the day with breakfast and a new combo of peanut butter and french toast :-) (thanks Anna). From there, the rotations began with waterskiing/wakeboarding, and then a bunch of us went to the beach and learned to sail a small sailboat for the first time. We then went to the beach and sailed Picos and windsurfed. After a short lunch break we headed off to scuba dive, which was fun, and then headed home to our boat. And now here we are at dinner... (pasta).

Day 4 3 Aug 2009
Author: Drew H.Location: Vixen Point, Gorda Sound
We went to the Baths today and all of us wandered around the island and jumped off pretty big rocks. That was amazing. We stayed there for two hours. Just before we went back to the boat, we went to this giant air pocket under the rocks. After we were on the boat we went to Spanishtown and got cheeseburgers at an awesome place, then we went shopping for food. After another two hours we went to the boat and sailed to Vixen Point. It rained on the way there but it was fun anyways. We all sang Disney songs. After we got settled at Vixen Point we ate dinner. It was very great.

Day 3 2 Aug 2009
Author: Megan E.Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
Today was a wonderful day! First thing in the morning we ate scrambled eggs, melon, and cranberry orange muffins. Then we all went skiing and wakeboarding. We can't believe how blue the water is! After we went to the island for a hike to the windward side of the island, followed by windsurfing (it's harder than it looks!). What I enjoyed the most about today is we got to scuba dive for the first time. It was the coolest thing I've ever done! Under the water we worked on various scuba skills to help us with our future dives, while Alex wakeboarded and cleaned the beach for community service. Also, Taylor, Leah, Cyrus, Drew Patrick (aka "Cat") and I had a mud fight in the salt water pond!

Day 2 1 Aug 2009
Author: Cyrus A.Location: Savanna Bay, Virgin Gorda
The Pine left the docks for the first time of the session and cruised around the docks for 30 minutes until we picked up our last two members. Once we gathered the full crew we sailed to a small secluded bay called Savanna Bay. The crew learned how to operate sails and take the down. We learned about wind direction and the routine it takes to sail into incoming wind directions. The best parts about today was learning each other's name origins when we had our first "squeeze" session together. Bobby, our dive instructor, taught us all about the diving equipment and the correct method to assemble them. We experienced our first day as a full group, and everybody is growing comfortable with each other.

Day 1 31 Jul 2009
Author: Cyrus A.Location: West End, Tortola
Today most of the arriving shipmates have arrived and have met their fellow crew members. The shipmates went through orientation to learn the boat rules and certain safety guidelines. About two of our shipmates have not arrived yet because their flights were cancelled. They will hopefully arrive early tomorrow. The shipmates had to go through a swim test to test their capabilities.
